He is also known professionally as ‘PontiacMadeDDG.’

The Origin Story
DDG was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on October 10th, 1997.
He is one of five siblings, two of whom have earned fame in their own right: his younger sister is the rapper Tee Tee, and one of his older brothers is the rapper DuB Bridge.
Another older brother of DDG’s was murdered at the age of 21.
DDG was interested in music from a young age, thanks to the encouragement of his father, who was a sound engineer.

Thanks to his father’s profession, DDG was able to gain access to a recording studio, where he was able to experiment with making music while still a child.
This led to a lifelong interest in music for DDG. After graduating high school (where he was class valedictorian), he attended Central Michigan University; however, the lure of the entertainment world proved too strong for him, and he dropped out to focus on his music and YouTube career.

DDG released his first single – “Lettuce” – on YouTube in October 2017. For the song, DDG teamed up with American rapper Famous Dex.
The track featured fellow rapper Famous Dex and was hugely successful, hitting 500,000 views in an hour.
It was so widely regarded that the content aggregation site WorldStarHipHop immediately contacted DDG and requested distribution rights.
DDG quickly amassed a huge following on YouTube, with some videos getting more than 2 million views.
He continued to release new tracks exclusively through WorldStarHipHop’s YouTube channel, including such hits as “Givenchy,” “Take Me Serious,” “Pontiac,” and “On The Low.”
“Givenchy” was particularly successful, garnering a staggering 27 million views on WorldStarHipHop’s channel. In addition, DDG continued to release the audio on his own personal channel.

In June 2018, DDG signed an exclusive deal with Epic Records.
He released his first non-YouTube track, “Arguments,” which was quickly certified gold.
The following March, he released a further song, “Hold Up,” the video of which reached around 15 million views on YouTube.
Debut Studio Album

On November 1, 2019, DDG released his debut studio album, titled – ”VALEDICTORIAN” via Epic. The album featured Young Nudy, Queen Naija, Blac Youngsta, G Herbo, and YBN Nahmir.
He said to Complex about the album:
”It’s been maybe like a year or two of just working, ever since I’ve been with Epic.” Darryl later added: ”I’ve got a lot of songs, so it’s a lot of songs that didn’t make the project.”
In 2020, DDG released his biggest hit yet – the smash hit “Moonwalkin’ In Calabasas.” It was DDG’s first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100, hitting #83 on the prestigious music chart.
So successful was the hit that DDG released a further two remixes, one with the rapper Blueface and the second with YG. The song went platinum in the summer of 2021.
In February 2022, DDG released a single named “Elon Musk.” The song was about DDG’s respect and admiration for the billionaire businessman, and in it, he talked about he and Musk’s purported similarities, including an interest in space travel.
